Second life Machinima going to the World Expo 2010 Shanghai with Aino Baar founder of OPEN THIS END

World Expo 2010 Shanghai  Model of Madrid Spains two Pavilions

Well it looks like the show has begun and it is finally a reality. A dream come true for those who will travel to Shanghai to witness this  spectacular event that does not come around to often in ones life time and to also be a part of.

Second life resident Aino Baar founder of the group OPEN THIS END who is in  real life Curator Cristina García-Lasuén is going  and representing Madrid Spain along with others she mentioned  in March  when she came to visit and asked for my help. What a story she told and it transformed over time to this reality with the help of so many others.

She mentioned she wanted to give back to Second Life what she had taken. Since she joined Second life she felt she could breath again. Her creative soul had been awakened one more time by the grace of so many artist she had come to know in the virtual world. Many people have helped her along her along the way and she wanted to offer them this opportunity to also play a part with her at such a wonderful event to showcase the many talents she had found in Second Life.

Machinima was something she was fond of and wanted to show to the world she said. It would be history making. Over time we met and spoke of the themes she had in mind and what the World Expo's Theme was and her countries. She wanted names of Machinimatographers, she wanted to find the best.  By this time  it had evolved from a contest to an open playing field for all who wanted to participate. It was exciting to listen to her ideas and concepts I was excited myself and for her..

So I create a list of the best Machinimatographers for her. We know there are so many out there now that probably don't even show their work but I went with what I had known at the time. Aino and I have known each other for some time now and she was familiar with my work and she trusted my judgement.  I was acquainted with others like myself and wrote down the current Machinima filmmakers who I knew would be thrilled to a part of something like this or maybe they already new. She asked me for the ones I most admired. Which I did and sent it off to her and boy did the show begin.

This is going to be Machinimas finest and most prestigious opportunity I think we will remember and I wont see anything topping this one to soon as you can see with the videos of the real event they even have been out of this world. Remarkable images already making their way around the world.

Linden Lab is by her side of course, sims have been donated & dedicated to the Expo and opened for all to use.

She wrote to me the other day and showed me a description of the Details she was about to release. This Expo really is historic and she is as busy as ever preparing to go. We went over the words and just knowing Madrid Spain was to have built two Pavilions and the location it was in relation to the main Pavilion for Shanghai you knew it was a very special moment to be part of and one to remember.

I told her to relax and let it happen. Not to forget comfortable shoes and plenty of water. I told her to take it all in and enjoy herself. It will be a time to remember always.

The Whispering Tree on the Sim of NO COLOR

What a time she will have at this most prestigious historic event.
The Utopia islands were created by Bryn Oh – she designed the sims no love,  no color and the no light  with Soror Nishi  and Colemarie Soleil.Glyph Graves created the no energy, and Markus Inkpen created  no sound with Hamiazalea-; finally Kazuhiro Aridan created the whisper tree which is pictured above on the sim of No Color. The visions of all those combined will no doubt be a treasure for the residents of Second life / Linden Lab to be proud of.

The art work and the films that have come out of this dream for this event have been master pieces. I know first hand people in real life people have no idea what magical and beautiful breathtaking art work is being created to this day in Second Life and they are missing out. Bravo to all who have contributed to this moment in time that will forever change the lives of some who have joined in.

Listening to her talk and express her thoughts and ideas before and to see it all come together is magical and now seeing it all come together her dreams and hopes. This really will be a special journey she is about to take with the real world and now also for the Virtual World of Second life. The Icing on the cake with a cherry on top. As she wrote...

"We are very honored to have been given this opportunity to participate in the Shanghai International Expo and excited to be a part of this historic event.

For the first time in history, cities can participate in the World Expo. OPEN THIS END is hosting the Air Tree, the Madrid pavilion. Madrid is one of the 55 selected cities. Only 14 CITY WINNERS in 55 participants. Madrid is one of the 14 city winners to build a real replica pavilion on site in the main square of the Expo, close to the Shanghai host pavilion. Only 14 of these (55) cities can build a real replica of their best urban practices in Shanghai.

Madrid is a unique winner that was granted the honor of building two pavilions instead of one unlike the
other winners who were granted one site.

Pavilion One is called: “ Bamboo House” designed from Alejandro Zaera, one of the most prestigious architects, and FOA (Foreign Office Architects). The Bamboo house received, the RIBA award 2008 for architectural excellence (Royal Institute of British Architects).

Pavilion two, our home base, “The Air Tree” is where we will have our daily exhibitions from May 1st to October 31st, inspired from “Ecosistemas Urbanos”. The bio climatic trees are an initiative to create a public habitable space to encourage relations between citizens. It also serves to generate a structure of neighborhood management. The climatization system of evaporate transpiration used in the tree and the immediate surroundings decrease in temperature up to 8-10º C.

The Air Tree is one of the finalists in the Contemporary Architecture Award of the European Union, and has the Mies Van der Rohe Award 2007 and the AR AWARD for emerging architecture (London 2007).

For the first time in history, Machinima Films, will take part and be shown at the International Expo. OPEN THIS END has been given the unique opportunity to share this new art form Machinima at this historical exhibition."

Watch for all the videos already coming out from visitors from around the real world from those who have taken the trip to witness the event. The opening was on a scale grander than the Olympics I have to say. And that is hard to beat. The layout of the city and structures are mystical. How could you not come home from that and not be enchanted and filled with dreams that will last you a more than one life time.

Below are a few of my own submissions.
